Google.com vs. eBay.com

Reading MSN.com this morning I come across another article about Google v. eBay.  I have sort of been up to date with this whole thing and chuckling the whole way.

The article points out 3 things that will be changing. Included is Googles “programmable search” which will let people find what they want at the best possible price (like eBay). This of course hurting eBay’s stock and user base, as more people will leave eBay to set up their own storefronts that Google can crawl.

Will this really happen? Will Google take down one of the largest online storefronts in the world? My opinion is, yes. Google has the man power, resources and money to do it. eBay has already been around for 12 years and how much longer will it go? The fees keep going up, this and that change, when Google makes things easier and cheaper, why wouldn’t people switch over?

Now Google can pitch their “Google Checkout” to even more people and integrate the entire process. You search, you find, you buy, right from the Google search results page. Wouldn’t that be a flip?
