Target will not sell Manhunt 2

Wow.  A game too violent a store will not sell it?  This isn’t anything new, why does it surprise anyone?  The execs at Target have decided that even though the game got a “M” rating for mature, it was still too violent.

“All video games and computer software sold at Target currently carry ratings by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board–from early childhood through mature audiences,” ABC quoted a statement from Target as saying. “While Manhunt 2 was given a ‘Mature’ rating by the ESRB, we received additional information that players can potentially view previously filtered content by altering the game code. As a result, we have decided not the carry the game.”

I guess if you look at it that way, it’s a logical decision, but what about Grand Theft Auto 3 and the “codes” you can enter to hire prostitutes and things of the like? That was ok? I think it’s a bold thing to do when you decide not to sell a product that will no doubt be a hit. It’s impressive to see a large company take a stand like this, too bad it won’t make any difference in sales, or what parents think is ok for their child.
