A Couple of Tips for Computer Users

In this day when computers are super fast and connections to the internet are even faster, there are still some people stuck “in the 90’s” with both.  And thanks to my parents and their “always slower and just a bit out of date computer”, I have decided to post a couple of sites that may be benefitial to computer owners in the same boat.

Back before I knew what I was doing with computers, I had to visit “tweak” sites all of the time to get more speed and performance from my computer.  Since we all know that most computers you purchase come jam packed with all kinds of software bells and whistles that you don’t need, taking away some of those and tweaking a bit here and there can really improve performance.

tweakxp.jpgThe first website is www.tweakxp.com.  I have been through this website 100 times and there is always something helpful here.  It is laid out like a forum and people post ideas they have about tweaking you version of Windows.  Hold up!  I thought the same thing, some other computer genius telling ME how to fix MY computer, never!  But there are experts commenting and fixing the tweaks if they are a little bit “off”, which I think greatly improves the safety of the users tweak.

dslreports.com logoThe second website I would like to tell you about is www.dslreports.com.  If you have a high speed internet connection, or you just like looking at dials and moving objects, take a look at the Speed Test they have to offer.  This will clock your internet upload and download speeds to various datacenters throughtout the country.  It’s nice to see that you really aren’t getting  your speed that you paid for.

Anywho, there is my public service for the day, if you have a comment on either of these sites, go ahead and leave it already, that’s what the comment section is for!
